Hare, Hare, Hare, Krishna!

Okay so the best kept secrets of Utah are kept in Payson (Sarcasm kids). So that probably isn't true BUT the Lotus Temple is housed there so I think we owe those Payson folk some credit. Saturday I decided that I needed to become a more culturally diverse individual (aka I had homework to do and tried to find any excuse I could to get out of it) and teamed up with my roomie, her brother, and some friends to participate in The Festival of Colors. And a celebration of colors it was! This is a Hindu spring celebration that ends up being about 95% college students that go to BYU or UVU and are of the Mormon faith. But whatev, thats beside the point. Basically its broken down to this..You arrive, you park a mile away, you get your bags of colored chalk, and you wait to throw them at each other...

And this is the end result...

Literally, the sky is colored powder..its nuts!

And of course...this is where the magic happens!

So following the actual throwing of the powder (which truthfully goes on for the remainder of the festival) a rockin' band starts to play and you just start dancing. Oh and if you can remember "Hare Krishna" you'll be able to sing along with every tune. It's great. So my friends, next time you're in Utah looking for a good time, hopefully its Spring! You'll want to hit this up at least once in your lifetime...

  2. I wonder if the insides of your lungs also turn a magical rainbow of colors... Sadly, I never made it to the Festival of Colors. Seen lots of pictures of it now -- looks fun! You're cute in chalk.

  3. This blog looks very promising, indeed. You certainly have enough material to keep it fed for quite some time now! Love all your pictures.

WV: eriablab - you gotta love this one, but I don't have time to do anything with it right now.
